Trim silence while listening

Automatically skip the quiet gaps at the start and end of every verse during playback.

Every recording has a small breath of quiet before the reader starts and after they finish. When you're listening straight through a chapter, those little pauses add up. Trim silence tightens the gaps so verses flow into one another naturally, without long dead air between voices.

Where to find it

  1. Open Listen and select a passage.
  2. Tap the soundwave icon at the top of the page to open Listening settings.
  3. Turn on Trim silence.

How it works

The first time a verse plays with Trim silence on, the app quickly analyzes that verse's audio to find where the speech actually starts and ends, keeping a small natural pad on each side so words are never clipped. From then on, playback jumps straight to the spoken portion and moves to the next verse as soon as the current one ends — no waiting through empty air.

This does not change your recordings

Trim silence is a playback-only effect. It doesn't touch the audio file itself — turn it off and every verse plays back with its full, original pauses intact. This is different from Editing your audio recordings, which permanently trims a specific recording you made.

Good to know

  • Trim silence applies to every reader's recordings equally, not just your own.
  • It works alongside Enhance Audio — you can use either, both, or neither.
  • If a verse's leading or trailing silence can't be confidently detected, the app simply plays the full recording rather than guessing.
